CREAMLINE finally won a title in the Premier Volleyball League after back-to-back third place finishes.
Title hungry Cool Smashers defeated PayMaya, 25-19, 25-20, 25-11, on Wednesday to complete a sweep of the best-of-three finals series of the Reinforced Conference at the MOA Arena.
Alyssa Valdez, whose last championship was three years ago, led Creamline with 19 points, while Thai import Kuttika Kaewpin and Michele Gumabao each had 12 markers.
Jia Morado, who averaged 8.7 excellent sets per set, was named finals MVP.
“It’s really been a while siguro three years after I got a championship and also Jia so medyo memorable din siya kasi kasama ko si Jia and coach Tai,” said Valdez.
The former Queen Eagle bagged back-to-back championship in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament in 2014-2015 in the same arena along with former Ateneo teammate Morado and ex Ateneo coach Tai Bundit.
“Masarap ‘yung feeling kasi you know naman kung gaano kahirap ‘yung training for us as in blood, sweat and tears talaga sa training and ang dami naming challenges na pinagdaanan sa team pero ‘yun ang masarap na feeling,” said Morado.
American import Tess Rountree finished with 12 points for PayMaya.
The Cool Smashers’ win also gives BanKo Perlas the third spot, after the Spikers won the second match in four sets following a five-set loss in the series opener.
