CREAMLINE dealt Petro Gazz its first defeat in the 2019 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19, 26-24, Saturday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Alyssa Valdez delivered the final blows for the Cool Smashers in a thrilling fourth set where they squandered a 20-17 lead and even fell behind 24-21.

Creamline did get its bearings in time, stringing six straight points with Valdez scoring three of the last four markers to snag its seventh win in eight outings.

"When coach Tai made timeout, he was asking for one thing and that made us very calm and relaxed on the court. If we win that set, we'll get the game, and if we lose, it goes to a fifth set, so it was a win-win situation for the team and we just gave our 101-percent and overcome the challenges of that fourth set," said Valdez, who scored all 16 of her points off attacks.

The win forced a first place tie between the two squads as they both carry identical 7-1 win-loss records.

Thai reinforcement Kuttika Kaewpin powered the Cool Smashers with 18 points, 16 coming from hits and two blocks, to go with 17 excellent digs, while Venezuelan Ale Blanco got 12 markers.

Jia Morado also added eight points and 23 excellent sets in the four-set win.

The Angels banked on their reinforcements Wilma Salas, who punctured 22 of her 23 points off spikes, and Janisa Johnson, who had 22.

PetroGazz, however, lacked the support from its locals.

Cherry Nunag added five, and Jeanette Panaga scoring two of her four markers from service aces, which turned out to be the Angels' last stand in the game when they failed to close the game out at set point, 24-21.
