Similarly, the High Speed Hitters also won its first assignment over Australia’s Queensland Pirates prior to a five-set loss to Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima.
It was a slightly different route for the Angels as they dropped their tournament opener in four sets to Chinese Taipei’s Taipower ahead of a bounce-back sweep past Hong Kong’s Hip Hing.
From here on out, a series of knockout playoff matches will take place to determine which two teams will secure Asia’s two spots for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship later this year.
First to see action in the knockout stage is PLDT that will be up against nine-time Kazakh champion Zhetysu on Apr. 24 (Thursday) at 4 p.m. — the team that first dealt a dent to Creamline’s AVC run.
Petro Gazz will then headline opening day of playoff action when it takes on China’s Beijing BAIC Motor at 7 p.m.
The reigning Chinese Volleyball League silver medalist swept pool play en route to the knockout stage.
Over on the opposite bracket, ending quarterfinals play will be Creamline versus six-time Thai champion Nakhon Ratchasima on Apr. 25 (Friday) at 7 p.m.
Breakthrough wins for the High Speed Hitters and Cool Smashers, should they pull through against champion opposition, will set up an all-Filipino AVC semifinal.
Meanwhile, a Petro Gazz win will pave the way for either a rematch with its pool play tormentor Taipower or a star-studded battle with Vietnam icon Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her domestic champion club VTV Bình Điền Long An.
