CREAMLINE survived without Jia Morado as it edged Pacifictown-Army in a tight encounter, 25-23, 28-26, 26-24, for its seventh straight victory in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan City.
Morado missed the match as she was hospitalized on Tuesday night due to gastroenteritis but the Cool Smashers stayed unbeaten in seven games moving just a win shy of sweeping the first round.
Alyssa Valdez delivered 18 points and led the comeback in the third set from trailing, 19-22, before she put the team at match point, 25-24, followed by Pau Soriano’s winning kill.
“Army is such a veteran team yun lang ang masasabi ko kahit anong gawin namin siguro smart kasi sila kalaban so mababasa’t basa nila kami,” said Valdez.
“I guess we had to play smart din on the latter part tsaka kailangan namin tiyagain kasi lalamang at lalamang sila,” she added.
Jema Galanza was also instrumental with 14 points and as many as receptions, while back-up setter Kyle Negrito filled in the big shoes of Morado with 18 excellent sets on top of two markers.
“Kyle Negrito naman was really the key to our win so hats-off to her,” said the Creamline skipper on Negrito.
Michele Gumabao chipped in with eight points laced with 13 digs, while libero Kyla Atienza had 14 digs and 10 excellent receptions.
Pacifictown-Army continued to struggle as it suffered its third straight loss dropping to 2-3 win-loss record despite Jovelyn Gonzaga‘s 10 points and 16 digs.
Ging Balse-Pabayo and Royse Tubino added nine and eight points, respectively, but the Lady Troopers failed to end their woes.
