CREAMLINE survived a tough stand by Iriga-Navy, 25-21, 26-24, 25-23, at the close of the preliminary round of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Wednesday.

Skipper Alyssa Valdez scored 19 points to lead the Cool Smashers, who had to go through three tough sets before putting away their fifth win - and sixth in seven games overall.

Jema Galanza added 14 and Thai import Kittika Kaewpin had 12.

“No excuses, we have to learn it na hard way,” said Valdez, whose team is already assured of a place in the semifinals. “Siguro kasi medyo dikit ‘yung sets today, pagbubutihin namin sa training para mas maganda ang results.”

Iriga-Navy had several chances to put more pressure on Creamline but squandered a three-point lead, 24-21, in the second set.

American imports Macy Ubben and Lauren Whyte finished with 17 and 15 points, respectively for Iriga-Navy, which was relegated to the quarterfinals with a 1-5 win-loss record.
