CREAMLINE breezed through the Petro Gazz heat, 25-20 25-21, 17-25, 25-20, for its first win in the 2025 PVL Reinforced Conference on Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
American import Courtney Schwan scored more than half of Creamline’s fourth-set haul with 13 of her 27 markers to cap a 13-5 match-clinching run.
Alyssa Valdez also posted the first triple-double of the conference with 14 points, 14 digs and 13 receptions.
It was also a steady second outing for Tots Carlos with 14 attack points to help steady the Creamline ship in the midst of a late Petro Gazz turbulence in the last two cantos.
"Sobrang excited kami sa Petro Gazz na makalaban sila knowing na every game ng Creamline at Petro Gazz, sobrang ganda talaga," said Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses.
"It's also a testament that we keep on working harder and harder every after game. We focus on every key point and that's the result. We never back down in any situation and that's why there's just so much joy in this game," Valdez added.
This brings the all-time head-to-head record of the league’s most successful franchises to 29-10 in favor of the Cool Smashers over a seven-year stretch.
Seven of 11 import-laden play meetings have now swung their way, too.
More importantly, Creamline avoided an early taste of infamy in what would’ve been its first 0-2 start to a PVL tournament in its eight-year franchise history.
Angels' wings clipped
Brooke Van Sickle was a scoring force unleashed for Petro Gazz with 26 big points built on 23 attacks, two aces and on eblock.
The two-time PVL MVP was backed by another sterling triple-double from former PVL champion Lindsey Vander Weide who churned out 17 points, 11 digs and 10 receptions in the loss.
As such, the Van Sickles were handed their first defeat as the Angels' new head coaching duo after a quick sweep of Galeries Tower last week in Cavite.
