BATANGAS City — Creamline boosted its bid for the No. 1 spot in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference, defeating Petro Gazz, 25-11, 25-13, 25-23, on Wednesday at Batangas City Coliseum.
Alyssa Valdez and Risa Sato scored 11 points apiece for the Cool Smashers, who improved to 10-3 and joined BanKo on top.
Creamline will face listless Adamson-Akari on Saturday to end the elimination round, while BanKo takes on Tacloban.
“We want that extra push going sa final four also kasi medyo hindi mo rin alam kung ano ang haharapin mo sa final four eh so we’re just really happy we’re getting all the confidence,” said Valdez.
The Cool Smashers also avenged their first-round loss to the Angels. Valdez was determined to help Creamline from getting swept.
“Siguro we’ve learned our lessons ilang games na rin kaming natatalo two sets up na.”
“It hurts and it’s tiring also, it’s frustrating so towards the end of the set we reminded ourselves na sayang,” she added.
Michele Gumabao gave the Cool Smashers the upper hand, 23-22, before a rotation error by the Angels put Creamline at match point.
Cherry Nunag scored on a quick attack to save match point, 23-24, but her own service error ended the match. Nunag had 10 points for Petro Gazz, which slid to 8-6.
