ATENEO lived for one more day after it overcame defending champion National University, 25-15, 27-25, 25-17, in Group A of the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles evened their record 2-2 tied with Technological Institute of the Philippines to force a playoff against the Lady Engineers on Monday.
The winner of the match between Ateneo and TIP will join NU and San Sebastian in the quarterfinals.
“Siguro kung ano ang mindset namin today, laro lang, play happy, play as a team, just have fun (‘yun din ang mindset for Monday),” said Ateneo skipper Mich Morente.
Morente carried the Lady Eagles with 20 points, from 15 kills, two blocks and three aces, while Kim Gequillana added 12.
From a 0-2 start in the conference, two-time UAAP champion put a blemish on NU’s record (3-1).
“We’re so happy kasi nakita na sa loob ng court ang teamwork namin. Nagawa lahat ng pinaghirapan namin sa training,” said Morente.
“Siguro mas nag-work hard kami doon sa weaknesses namin eh sa training, sa receive, sa palo, sa lahat ng kung ano ang mistakes namin last game. So ngayon thankful naman kami na lumabas lahat ng pinaghirapan namin sa training,” she added.
Jaja Santiago, who played under the weather as she had a fever, made 11 points for NU, while Risa Sato added 10.
Santiago missed two games in SVL after she played two do-or-die Finals games for Foton in the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference.
