CHAMPIONSHIP experiences are aplenty in a Cignal team that will enter only its second-ever PVL Finals appearance.
For instance, the likes of former F2 Logistics aces MJ Perez and Dawn Macandili-Catindig bested Petron stars Ces Molina, Riri Meneses and head coach Shaq delos Santos in the 2017 Grand Prix of the now-defunct Philippine Superliga (PSL)
Petron went on to win four of its seven PSL Finals series over F2 Logistics.
Over half a decade later, they’ll all be contesting a PVL championship together in the same team in a bid to win not only the franchise’s first-ever women’s volleyball title but deny Creamline’s third shot at a Grand Slam.
Cignal’s import and reigning best foreign guest player in Perez couldn’t wait to ‘combine their championship powers’ in what will be their biggest challenge yet.
And having multi-awarded veteran libero in Macandili-Catindig back from Alas Pilipinas duties gives her all the confidence that the HD Spikers can complete a task in what some may deem to be mission impossible.
“I feel so confident when I’m with Dawn in the court. Back in time when we won the championship (with F2 Logistics), it was a great experience. Of course, now, we’ll combine all the powers,” said Perez.
“I’m motivated because I really wanted to get this chance to play the final. Our team deserves this.”
Macandili-Catindig added: “Siguro ‘yung championship experience namin ni MJ and ni coach Shaq, dadalhin namin ‘yun bukas para ma-share sa team and maiangat pa ‘yung team para tuloy-tuloy kami.”
Delos Santos, meanwhile, was at a loss for words in describing what having a lethal duo like Perez and Macandili-Catindig means for a stacked Cignal team.
“We’re lucky din and so blessed na we have an import like MJ and a libero, buti na lang nakahabol si Dawn. Napakalaki ng impact niya sa’min, grabe. Kahit ‘di na ako magsalita grabe ‘yung naging performance,” the Cignal mentor said.
“Sobrang, sobrang happy and blessed talaga.”
