CIGNAL still made the most of its undermanned squad for the second game running.
The 14-strong HD Spikers chalked up back-to-back season-opening wins by dealing Chery Tiggo its first loss in a 25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 25-21 triumph in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference on Thursday at the Filoil Ecooil Centre.
With a new libero in Buding Duremdes onboard, it was veteran floor general Dawn Macandili-Catindig who led by example on defense with 23 digs and six receptions.
Cignal’s lead triple threat had scoring duties covered with captain Ces Molina’s 13 markers and a pair of 12-point outings from Vanie Gandler and Riri Meneses.
An on-point offensive performance saw a game-high ten Chery Tiggo blocks repelled by ten Cignal aces, five of which from multi-awarded setter Gel Cayuna.

As if a depleted roster wasn’t enough of an ordeal, Cignal head coach Shaq delos Santos saw one too many in-game flaws, particularly with miscommunications during crucial stretches.
Like any other early struggle there may be for PVL teams, five more months of action gives them enough time to clean up their acts.
“‘Yung sa communication namin kasi kanina, ang dami rin naming miscommunications especially pagdating namin sa transition going to attack. Buti nalang naco-convert pa rin namin ng puntos talaga,” the Cignal shot-caller said.
“Isa ‘yun, and then siguro ‘yung consistency ng pasa namin, ‘yung receive. ‘Yung level talaga namin, dapat mas gumalaw pa nang maayos, mas maging consistent, and ‘yung mindset talaga na kapag nandiyan ka sa loob ng court, ilaban mo hanggang dulo.
“Knowing them naman, kapag gusto nila gumalaw, kaya namin maka-create ng points.”
