    Arellano avoids winless PVL stint by beating La Salle

    ARELLANO avoided a winless stint Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference, scoring a 24-26, 25-11, 26-24, 25-22 victory over La Salle to end their campaign in high spirits on Saturday at the Arena in San Juan.

    Christian Dela Paz and Demmy Lapuz provided the fire power for Arellano, combining for 39 points to finally win after eight losses.

    Dela Paz nailed 16 kills and four blocks for 20 points and made eight excellent receptions, while Lapuz delivered 19 points off 18 attacks and also had a great defensive effort with eight digs.

    Jersrael Liberato scored 16 while skipper Christian Segovia added 13 points. Edmark Meneses made 25 excellent sets and scored five, while libero Joshua Esguerra had 17 digs and as many excellent receptions.

    Despite 31 errors, Arellano, silver medalist in the NCAA last season, dominated the Green Spikers with a 60-41 differential in attacks, 6-1 disparity in service aces and a 14-10 edge in the blocking department.

    Kieffer Reyes led La Salle with 13 points, while Geraint Bacon and Rhian Llige added 12 apiece as the Green Spikers ended the conference with three straight losses and finished in ninth place with a 2-7 record.
