IT was an eventful 24 hours for the returning Ced Domingo, who made her Akari debut almost immediately after joining her new team in practice for the first time.
Following Domingo & Co.’s four-set loss to Cignal, the newly-minted Thailand Volleyball League champion bared how it has hardly been a day since her first full Akari training session, the reason she has tempered expectations on her comeback game.

“First time ko kasi mag-training yesterday, ‘yung full training talaga. So nandun pa rin ako sa adjusting and adapting sa bagong system, sa bagong environment, new teammates, and new coaches so coming into this game, honestly very [minimal] lang ‘yung expectations ko sa sarili ko.”
Domingo added: “Gusto ko munang makita kung ano ‘yung system ng Akari, kung okay ba siya sa’kin, kung gaano ko kabilis maa-adapt ‘yung system, tsaka ko ia-apply ‘yung mga learnings ko sa Thailand. Ayoko kasi na biglang iapply ko siya. Gusto ko munang malaman kung saang part [ng laro] ko siya ia-apply.”
A week to remember
Days after becoming the third Filipino import to win an overseas league title after Bryan Bagunas and Jaja Santiago, the former PVL Finals MVP had an ‘overwhelming’ week as she landed in Manila ahead of her Akari debut.
“Pagdating ko dito, straight from the airport kasi dumating ako ng February 20 ng 1:00 a.m. [tapos] training kami ng 12 [noon]. Sobrang walang feeling na, ‘Hala, bagong team’ kasi nasa Thailand pa lang ako, nagme-message na ‘yung iba sa’kin [kaya] gumaan na ‘yung loob ko,” said Domingo.
“Honestly, at some point nakaka-overwhelm din talaga kasi sobrang daming changes and transitions. Pero at the end of the day, ganun talaga yung buhay.
“Pinag-aaralan ko na lang na kung paano ko siya iha-handle and kung paano ‘yung magiging approach ko every day ... kasi kapag iisipin ko ‘yung future na dapat ganito ako, mas lalo akong nape-pressure,” said Domingo.
