UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas continued its impressive run, downing San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 25-22, 25-15, 25-17, on Sunday for its fourth straight victory in the V-League Collegiate Conference
at The Arena in San Juan.
Skipper Pam Lastimosa led the way, as expected, scoring 14 points to help boost the Tigresses, who are now without Carmela Tunay after she suffered a broken nose during a game last week against Technological Institute of the Philippines.
The Tigresses hold a 4-1 win-loss card, stretching their winning streak after an opening-match loss to still unbeaten Ateneo, but Tigresses coach Kungfu Reyes noted they still need to work on different areas of their game to match the title contenders.
“Polish na lang sa depensa, problem first ball talaga,” he said. “Service namin ok naman, problema lang talaga depensa. ‘Di sila nag-uusap sa loob, mag-usap sila and everything will come.”
EJ Laure scored 12 points and Chlodia Cortez added 10, while UST came up with 11 total blocks, including six in the opening set against SSC-R’s three in the one-hour and 21-minute match.
The Recto-based squad received better, 13-6, but that was the highlight of its stats sheet as it suffered its fourth loss in five outings.
Jolina Labiano scored 11 points, all from spikes, for SSC-R, tied for fifth with Technological Institute of the Philippines.
