CAPITAL1 broke through with its maiden win in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference after trampling on fellow newcomer Strong Group on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena.
The Solar Spikers regained their bearings in the fourth set to pull off a 25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20 win - their first after suffering two losses to open their campaign under veteran coach Roger Gorayeb.
“Less than two months pa lang kami. So, every day, every practice, every game is a learning process for us. It’s a time for us to know each other kung ano man ‘yung kailangan naming idagdag”, said the Capital1 coach.
“Syempre ‘yung ganitong panalo, makakapag-boost ng morale namin sa mga susunod naming mga laro [...] Kahit may experience sila, they still have to learn.”
Showing off her offensive prowess, team captain Jorelle Singh led the Solar Spikers with 13 markers.
“Tinutulungan naman po ako ng mga ate ko sa team, kumbaga hindi po ako nahihirapan na i-guide sila [...] Bago pa lang po ‘yung team namin, so medyo naga-adjust pa rin po kami”, said Singh.
After two closelt contested sets, Strong Group gained the advantage by pouncing on multiple errors from the Solar Spikers.
However, Capital1 mounted a comeback, ultimately sealed by an attack from Arriane Layug.
SGA, led by a 12-point performance by Dolly Versoza, remained winless through three games in the pro league.
