SKIDDING Cagayan Valley looks to claim an outright semifinal spot and avoid a playoff when it faces Philippine Air Force on Sunday in the Shakey's V-League Season 11 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Rising Suns, the title holders, have lost its first four matches in the six-team quarterfinals and need to score a quick win in the 2 p.m. match to boost their title retention bid.
Cagayan Valley needs to win in four sets at the most to secure an outright semifinal spot and send Air Force to a playoff with Ateneo.
A five-set win by the Rising Suns will send them to another match with the Air Women, while pushing Ateneo to third spot and automatic entry to the last four.
An Air Force win will eliminate Cagayan Valley.
Philippine Army and PLDT Home Telpad, tied at the top with 6-3 cards, battle at 4 p.m.
The Lady Troopers look to regain the solo lead and recover from a stunning loss to Ateneo, 19-25, 25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 14-16, while the Power Attackers hope to score a follow-up to its 25-22, 25-21, 25-22 over Cagayan Valley.
PLDT coach Roger Gorayeb hinted they will not push too hard, convinced that No. 2 in the Final Four gives them a very good chance of making it to the final.
“Win or lose pasok na rin naman eh. Safe na safe na sa No. 2," said Gorayeb. "Basta kami laglalaro lang pero relax na lang."
