CAGAYAN Valley did short work of Meralco, 25-14, 25-20, 25-16, in the Shakey's V-League Season 11 Foreign Reinforced Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Tuesday.
Former University of Santo Tomas standout Aiza Maizo-Pontillas carried the Lady Rising Suns with 18 points, while ex-San Beda ace spiker Janine Maciano added 12 each in the win that took an hour and 13 minutes to complete.
Cagayan finished the first round of elimination with a 2-1 card.
“Ang teamwork nandoon na ulit, 'yung pinapractice namin sa training nakikita ko na sa game, na-e-execute namin ang ine-ensayo namin,” said Cagayan coach Nes Parmilar.
The Lady Rising Suns proved steadier at the net as they registered 11 blocks against the seven of the Power Attackers.
Cagayan also earned seven points from service aces, while Meralco only scored two markers from the service line.
Both Cagayan and Meralco played without imports although the foreign players were already granted their International Transfer Certificate.
The Lady Rising Suns' Pacharee Saengmuang and Amporn Hyapha and the Power Attackers' Wanida Kotruang and Misao Tanyama will suit up in their next assignments.
Cagayan will face Army on Thursday next week, while Meralco tangles with the Lady Troopers on Sunday.
Abi Maraño came up with 10 points for Meralco, which absorbed its third consecutive loss in the conference.
