CAGAYAN Valley reinforces its Finals bid in the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Open Conference following a straight set win over Meralco, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21, in their semifinals match Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.
Aiza Maizo-Pontillas finished with 21 points, all from spikes while Rosemarie Vargas added 10 for the Lady Rising Suns, who evened their record at 1-1 in the single round semifinal phase.
They are now tied with defending champion Philippine Army just behind leader and finalist PLDT Home Ultera (2-0).
“Nagkaroon pa kami ng magandang tsansa,” said Cagayan Valley coach Nes Pamilar, whose team will take on Philippine Army in a do-or-die match on Tuesday.
A win by the Lady Rising Suns would arrange for them a title series against the Ultra Fast Hitters.
“Na-excute naman ang lahat ng nai-practice namin. ‘Yung mga palo nila sa open, nadepensahan namin," added Pamilar.
The Lady Rising Suns started flat in the third set, 3-5, before they snatched the lead, 8-5, after scoring five successive points and never looked back.
Cha Cruz and Paneng Mercado led the Power Spikers with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Meralco dropped to 0-2 and out of contention for the remaining finals berth.
