CAGAYAN Valley secured the second spot in the semifinals with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-21 win over Meralco on Tuesday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Aiza Maizo-Pontillas scored 14 points as Cagayan Valley scored their fifth win in six matches to join unbeaten PLDT (7-0) in the semifinals.
Rosemarie Vargas scored nine points and Wenneth Eulalio added eight for the Lady Rising Suns, who finished the match in an hour and 25 minutes.
The league will have a 10-day break to give way to the Asian Under 23 Women’s Championship set May to 9, where Cagayan Valley player Ria Meneses will play for the Philippines alongside PLDT’s Alyssa Valdez and Jaja Santiago.
The break should help for injury-decimated Cagayan Valley, although coach Nes Pamilar did not reveal when exactly Angge Tabaquero, out with a right shoulder injury, and Janine Marciano, who has a stressed left shin, would be able to return.
“Itong long break namin maganda ang chance namin para makapagpahinga at makabalik ang injured naming players,” said Pamilar.
Aby Marano and Maica Morada each had nine markers, while skipper Paneng Mercado added eight for Meralco, which absorbed its third straight loss after starting the tournament with back-to-back wins.
