ONE team’s unbeaten record will have to go Sunday when top seeds Cagayan Valley and Philippine Army face each other in the main game of the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Rising Suns and Lady Troopers occupy the top two spots in the standings. Cagayan is at no. 1 with a 5-0 slate, while Army is two games behind at no. 2 with a 3-0 record.
Nes Pamilar, the Cagayan Valley coach, said team work will be the key factor in the 4 p.m. encounter between the league’s two undefeated squads.
"Basta ang bilin ko lang sa kanila lagi team work 'yun lang naman," said the veteran mentor.
Bannered by Aiza Maizo, Angeli Tabaquero, and Thai import Kannika Thipachot, the Lady Rising Suns are already in the quarterfinals after a 25-16, 25-17, 25-22 three-sets win over Far Eastern University last Friday.
But the Lady Troopers have been competing together with an intact line-up for quite some time now whose strength lies on being the league’s top defensive team.
“We have prepared hard against them and we hope our defense will hold,” said Army coach Rico de Guzman, who is again expecting top players Tina Salak, Mary Jean Balse, Michele Carolino, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Nene Bautista, and skipper Joanne Bunag to take charge in the team’s biggest test of the tournament.
Meanwhile, it’s the battle of winless teams in the 2 p.m. curtain raiser featuring Philippine Navy against Far Eastern University
The Lady Sailors carry a 0-3 card, while a game behind are the Lady Tamaraws at 0-4.
