A CHAMPIONSHIP series sweep wasn’t to be for Petro Gazz after yielding to Creamline in a 15-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-15, 9-15 five-set classic back in Game Two of the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference Finals.

Unlike a much more commanding fifth-set finish in the series opener, the Angels had to play catch-up throughout a failed bid at a maiden All-Filipino crown.

It would be Petro Gazz’ first playoff loss since an upset Game One loss in the quarterfinals to ZUS Coffee.
Since then, it went on to win its next six playoff matches.
As the dust settled on a closely-contested Game 2, the Angels began leaving the Big Dome one by one or in small groups or pairs.

All players approached to by the media either turned down interview requests or walked straight to the exits — all but one.
The only player who took even just a few seconds to chat was no other than reigning All-Filipino MVP Brooke Van Sickle.
She produced a finals triple-double of 18 points, 14 receptions and 10 digs.

Such an output was six markers shy of her scoring output back in their series-opening victory.
Onto the next, and last
The 27-year-old Fil-American winger opted not to be formally interviewed, which has rather been customary for her in the rare occasions Petro Gazz lost matches this conference — thrice in 20 matches to date, to be exact.
However, Van Sickle left one parting note to explain why she’d rather not dwell or reflect on the Angels’ Game Two loss.

As BVS puts it, “my mind is already in the next game.”
From there, she bade goodbye, left with a pleasing smile and headed to the exits to gear up for what would be the biggest match of her volleyball career yet as she looks to finally seize her first-ever league championship after nearly two decades.
