DASMARIÑAS — Brooke Van Sickle has been in a league of her own in nearly two years with Petro Gazz in the PVL.

But the team’s latest coaching change might’ve just made her one of a kind.

While it’s common for siblings or relatives to either play with or against each other, it has almost never happened for a father-mother-daughter trio to be in the same team all at the same time, which is the case now with BVS joined by his head-coach dad Gary and deputy-coach mom Lisa in the Angels camp.

On top of that, Van Sickle already shared the court before with returning Petro Gazz import Lindsey Vander Weide at the University of Oregon in the US NCAA Division I from 2016 to 2019.

Is there any downside to having one too many familiar faces around her?

None at all, says the two-time league MVP.

“I wouldn't say that there's a worst part,” Van Sickle told SPIN.ph shortly after her 14-point, six-dig Reinforced Conference debut in a win over Galeries Tower.

“I just see it all good because being able to have them, Lindsey and my parents here, and being able to share this time with them is awesome.

“I’m just grateful for it and I think it was just God's plan for it all to work out and I'm just happy. There's really nothing bad about it.”

Fresh and clean slate

It’s also as if having her parents and Vander Weide back her up felt like an antidote of sorts that has so far brought Petro Gazz back on track after a woeful ninth-place preseason run.

That renewed energy, notwithstanding her ties with them, couldn’t have come at a better time for an Angels side seeking to become the most decorated team in the Reinforced Conference with a possible third title.

“There's a lot of things we had to work on internally and I think it all was for the best. We're stepping in the right direction now and I'm really happy that everyone's doing their part,” Van Sickle said.

“Anyone stepping in on the court is doing their job and creating points and creating good energy, and I think it's really good.

“We're in a good spot right now and I hope we can continue to build off of it.”
