BANKO bucked a slow start to beat BaliPure, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 25-16, on Saturday for its first win in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Arena in San Juan.
Kia Bright, who scored only six in the three-set opening match loss to Petro Gazz, bounced back and led the way with 16 points built on 12 spikes and four blocks on top of seven digs.
BanKo improved to a 1-1 win-loss record.
“It’s an improvement. Although I still think we’re still working to jell completely as a team but definitely much better than last game,” said Bright. “I’m grateful for that and hopefully we could just continue to improve from here.”
Kathy Bersola delivered seven kills, six blocks and two service aces for 15 points. Skipper Nicole Tiamzon chipped in 13 points, while Turkish import Yasemin Yildrim added 11 markers.
“Tingin ko naman nagi-improve kami one set a at a time. Yung feeling kasi ng previous game parang wala pa sa atmosphere na naglalaro,” said Tiamzon speaking for Thai coach Apichat Kongsowat.
BanKo, however, has less than 24 hours before facing Creamline on Sunday at 4 p.m.
“Marami pa kaming kailangang i-clear na errors namin, i-clear na problems. Hopefully bukas maayos na namin,” The Perlas Spikers team captain added.
BaliPure, which committed 40 errors in its first loss against Army last week, continued to give up free points to its opponent, committing 30 miscues this time, dropping to a 0-2 record.
Montenegrin import Danijela Dzakovic, who missed the opening match due to international transfer certificate issues, made an impressive debut with a game-high 23 points including 17 excellent receptions and eight digs.
Slovakian import Alexandra Vajdova and Grazielle Bombita had 14 points each.
