Bernadeth Pons named PVL Reinforced Conference MVP

FOR the first time in her volleyball career, Bernadeth Pons is the MVP of the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference.

With the absence of the now nine-time PVL champion Creamline's stars, Pons took matters into her own hands with a tournament total of 147 total points on 136 attacks, six aces and five blocks.

She also ranked second in receptions at 45.6% efficiency and sixth in digs with 3.06 per set, showing off her all-around play.

By also being adjudged as the best player in the finals, Pons became the first PVL player to win both conference and Finals MVPs nods in the same campaign since Jaja Santiago in Chery Tiggo’s 2021 Open Conference title romp.

Bronze medalist Cignal added a touch of gold to its campaign as its import MJ Perez was named the conference’s best foreign guest player.

With 229 points in the quarterfinals, the Venezuelan veteran spiker ranked seventh in aces (0.26 per set) and ninth in the spiking department with 34.4 percent efficiency.

Her MVP predecessor Brooke Van Sickle and Akari ace Grethcel Soltones emerged as the best outside spikers.

The Petro Gazz hitter ruled the scoring department among all locals with 196 points (sixth overall) and topped the league in serving (0.48 per set), sixth in spiking (36 percent efficiency), eighth in digging (2.9 per set) and ninth in receptions (37.5 percent efficiency).

Soltones had 111 points (16th overall) and also excelled in services (0.27 per set) and receptions (41.12 percent) for her fourth top hitter plum.

Former F2 Logistics aces in PLDT’s Majoy Baron and Capital1’s Des Clemente were feted as the best middle blockers, with the former leading all middle blockers in scoring (77 points, 23 blocks) and the latter with 19 of her 73 points being net rejections.

Farm Fresh’s Trisha Tubu was the conference’s top opposite hitter with 123 points to lead all local opposites and 36.8 percent efficiency.

Cignal’s Gel Cayuna won her fourth best setter citation with 4.69 excellent sets per set as Galeries Tower’s Alyssa Eroa shone as the best libero by topping the receiving (47.83 percent efficiency) department and foruth in digging (4.09 per set).

Sharya Ancheta of ZUS Coffee, the 13th overall pick of the inaugural PVL Draft, won the first-ever rookie of the conference award.
