BERNADETH Pons was pleased to see the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws score a big win after her pep talk, keeping alive their title bid in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference.

The Lady Tamaraws’ former leader gave a few words of encouragement to the team after a four-set loss in the opener of the best-of-three series on Thursday.

FEU did well in the second match, winning also in four to arrange a series decider.

“Masaya ako sa nilaro nila ngayon kasi pinakita nila ‘yung pagiging mature nila as a player kasi nung Thursday night kinausap ko sila. Sabi ko sa kanila, ‘Maglaro kayo ng may pride sa sarili niyo,’” she said.

“Kasi most of them parang fifth playing year and fourth playing year so mayroon na silang experience compared sa UST medyo maraming baguhan na naglalaro sa loob ng court.”

“So sabi ko, ‘Hindi niyo sila iuundeestimate dahil mga first year, second year lang sila pero maglaro kayo ng may pride sa sarili niyo dahil mas senior kayo sa kanila. So wag kayong pumayag na basta-basta lang kayong malulusutan,’” she added.

“Hindi ko siya tinanggap, hindi ako pumirma ng kontrata kasi parang sa five years ko sa FEU minsanan lang ako nakabakasyon. So parang gusto ko ngayon makabakasyon ako ng mahaba, especially December,” said the spiker from Negros Occidental.

“Nakakahiya naman sa FEU kung sasahod ako tapos palagi akong a-absent. So sabi ko hindi ako pipirma, pero tutulong ako.”

“‘Yung matutulong ko na lang sa kanila ngayon magbibigay na ko ng advice kung ano ‘yung pwede kong maitulong sa kanila, ‘yun na lang ‘yung gagawin ko kasi hindi na talaga ako makakapaglaro kahit anong gawin ko,” she concluded.

The FEU seniors stepped up when it mattered most, with Celine Domingo and Jerrili Malabanan combining for 36 points, while setter Kyle Negrito adding 12 points and 26 excellent sets.

“‘Yun ‘yung pinoint out ko talaga na kailangan maglaro sila ng may pride as an FEU player and as senior na din kasi hindi na sila bata lang kailangan maipakita nila kung ano na sila ngayon,” she said.

The Lady Tamaraws try to seal a spot in the finals in the series decider on Sunday at 4 p.m.

“Bukas kailangan pa rin nila paghirapan ‘yung bawat puntos. So i-enjoy lang nila ‘yung game magtiwala sila sa sarili nila na kayang kaya nila kasi yung ginawa nila ngayon maganda naman so kailangan na mas dagdagan pa nila bukas,” she said.

“Game Three na ‘yun eh, papunta na ng finals so kailangan mas doblehin pa nila ‘yung effort nila para makuha nila yung goal nilang makapasok ng finals.”
