ATENEO is one win away from the finals after beating University of Santo Tomas, 27-25, 25-16, 25-17, on Saturday in the V-League 12 Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Bea de Leon scored 16 points from eight attacks and eight of the Lady Eagles’ 12 blocks.
Alyssa Valdez scored 15 and Amy Ahomiro chipped in with 10 as Ateneo won the opener of the best-of-three semifinals in one hour and 24 minutes.
The Lady Eagles could have won the match quicker, but had a sluggish start.
“Sinabi nga ni coach na hindi masyado strong start namin and hanggang dun sa dulo hindi kami masyadong aggressive but there’s another day to improve naman and play better,” said Valdez.
The second match of the series is set on Sunday.
The Lady Eagles trailed, 10-12, in the third set but used a 9-0 run to take full control.
It was the Ateneo’s second win over UST in the conference.
None from UST scored in double figures, with EJ Laure leading the Tigresses with a measly nine markers.
