    BanKo wins five-set thriller vs Army in opener of third-place series

    BANKO fought back from two sets down to beat Pacifictown-Army, 25-27, 10-25, 27-25, 26-24, 16-14, in the first match of the battle for third place in the PVL Reinforced Conference on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan.

    The Perlas Spikers never wavered after a 15-point beating in the second set, with Nicole Tiamzon again delivering in crunch time.

    The former UP Lady Maroons star had 18 points off 15 kills, two aces and a block, making 19 excellent receptions and 13 digs in the two-hours and 10-minute match.

    “Kailangan namin labanan yung frustration kasi pag hindi namin nilabanan, kami rin ang maghahatakan pababa,” said Tiamzon.

    “Noong fifth set, sabi namin na ibigay na ang lahat, wala rin naman mawawala sa amin. We really wanted to win game one of the battle for third,” she added.

    Thai import Sutadta Chuewulim had 15 points and put up a great defensive effort for BanKo with 31 digs and 18 receptions.

    Dzi Gervacio chipped in 13 points, while Roces and Kathy Bersola added 11 points apiece.

    The Perlas Spikers try to capture their second straight bronze medal on Saturday.

    Olena Lymareva-Flink led Pacifictown-Army with 26 points.

    Honey Tubino had 24 points, all coming from attacks. Jenelle Jordan delivered 18 points, while Ging Balse-Pabayo had 12 hits. Jovelyn Gonzaga added six points, while making 23 digs and 17 excellent receptions.
