BANKO sent PetroGazz crashing back to earth with a four-set drubbing, 25-20, 11-25, 25-21, 25-18, for its opening win in the 2019 Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Nicole Tiamzon came up big in the fourth set as she delivered a pair of service aces, before Dzi Gervacio put the game under wraps with a thunderous spike to start the Perlas Spikers' campaign on the right note.
It was a character-building victory for BanKo after it bounced back from a lackluster 25-11 second set.
"We had to go back sa feeling ng first set namin. Hindi pwedeng magtuloy-tuloy yung ganung laro namin," said Tiamzon, who scored 12 points built on nine kills and three aces.
True enough, the Perlas Spikers settled down and heeded the calming words of Thai mentor Apichat Kongsawat as they buckled down and took the next two sets.
Gervacio topped the Perlas Spikers with 14 points powered by 12 spikes, as Sue Roces and Kath Bersola both nabbed nine markers in the triumph.
Jovie Prado led the Angels with 13 points, while Jeanette Panaga had 10.
It was a forgettable return for PetroGazz, which is coming off a championship in the Reinforced Conference last month.
