BANKO Perlas went off to a good start in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference, defeating Iriga-Navy, 25-14, 19-25, 25-17, 25-9, on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
Nicole Tiamzon made 16 points for the Spikers, while Dzi Gervacio and Joy Dacoron had 15 apiece and Amanda Villanueva had 10 markers, 10 digs and seven excellent receptions.
Despite the win, BanKo Perlas coach Dong dela Cruz admitted that they had to shake off a rusty start before they finally found their rhythm late in the game.
“Siguro first game, first game jitters,” said dela Cruz. “Medyo ‘yung rotation namin nawala.”
The veteran coach shared that he had to make last-minute adjustments after his team captain Sue Roces sustained a sprained right wrist during one of their tune up matches.
But he was pleased to see Amanda Villanueva step up to fill in the void left by their team captain.
“Nainjure si Sue so biglaan ang pasok ni Mands and kahit sino naman ang ipasok sa kanila magcocontribute naman,” he said.
In less than 24 hours BanKo Perlas will play in another match against Petro Gazz at Imus Sports Complex.
Rizalie Amaro finished with 10 points for Iriga-Navy.
