DZI Gervacio, Kathy Bersola, and Amanda Villanueva powered BanKo to dispatch Ateneo-Motolite, 26-24, 25-22, 25-16, in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference on Saturday the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.
Just like their first round match, the Perlas Spikers made a short work of the Lady Eagles, winning in just 74 minutes and spoiled their foes’ chance to seal a semifinals berth with their first loss in the second round after a four-game winning streak.
Gervacio, a former Lady Eagle, was once again a hero for BanKo while being a tormentor to her alma mater with 14 points on 12 kills and a pair of blocks. Bersola delivered 13 hits, while Villanueva added 11 markers including 11 digs and five excellent receptions.
“Sabi ko naman sa kanila basta sa experience, mas may experience naman kami kaysa sa kanila (Ateneo-Motolite),” BanKo coach Dong Dela Cruz said. “Nilaro lang namin ang game namin.”
The Perlas Spikers grabbed the solo lead with an improved 8-2 win-loss record and will try to clinch at least a playoff for a semis berth against Petro Gazz (5-5) in less than 24 hours on Sunday, 6:30 p.m., back at the Arena in San Juan City.
Kat Tolentino was the lone bright spot for the Lady Eagles with 13 points and nine digs as they suffered their first loss in the second round.
Ateneo-Motolite tries to bounce back right away and secure a semis berth anew against Adamson-Akari (0-9) also on Sunday at 4 p.m.
