BANKO sent Choco Mucho on the brink of elimination with a 25-20, 25-19, 27-25 victory to boost its semifinals bid in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan City.
The Perlas Spikers’ quartet, Kathy Bersola, Nicole Tiamzon, Dzi Gervacio and Sue Roces did the damage to the Flying Titans as they prevailed after an hour and 28 minutes.
Bersola put up five blocks, five attacks and three aces for 13 points, while Tiamzon, Gervacio and Roces delivered 11 markers each. Jem Ferrer scattered the offensive wealth with 27 excellent sets on top of 14 digs.
BanKo erased a 20-22 deficit in the third set and reached match point, 24-23, but Choco Mucho was able to save two match point advantages, tying the frame at 25-all, until Tiamzon nailed the finishing touches with a pair of clutch spikes.
“Kailangan may confidence ka rin na tapusin na yung game wala na e last two na lang. So kailangan may killer instinct ka na rin to close the game,” Tiamzon said. “Kasi pag nagextend pa yun baka magfive sets pa kami lang din yung mapapagod baka matalo pa.”
The Perlas Spikers are on a roll winning three matches in a row as they tightened their grip of the solo third place with a 9-5 win-loss record behind No. 2 Petro Gazz (9-3).
“We don’t want to be complacent na parang na pasok na kami and as much as possible we want to win the remaining games para yung momentum namin hindi talaga tumigil,” Tiamzon added.
Kat Tolentino carried the cudgels for the Flying Titans with 19 points, all coming from attacks, while Maddie Madayag had eight markers only for their team to fall with 6-8 card.
