BATANGAS City — Ateneo-Motolite avenged its first-round loss to Creamline after a 25-18, 25-20, 15-25, 23-25, 15-12 victory to take the No. 1 spot in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on Sunday at the Batangas City Coliseum.
Veterans Kat Tolentino made 22 points and Bea de Leon chipped in 15 markers for the Lady Eagles, who absorbed a straight-set beating from the Cool Smashers in their first encounter last week.
Ateneo-Motolite improved to 7-2 as it started the second round of eliminations with back-to-back victories.
“We’re happy na nakalaban namin ‘yung mga ate nila. We are learning, we learn from them,” said Ateneo-Motolite coach Oliver Almadro. “So that’s the main our purpose of this tournament, it’s not to win games but to learn.”
“‘Yung winning games it’s about character, now we’re still building character eh so what’s important for us we build character, we learn and kung mananalo tayo it’s a bonus for us,” he added.
Down by two, 10-12, Ateneo-Motolite scored on a 5-0 run capped by Vanessa Gandler’s block on Alyssa Valdez.
Valdez had a game-high 32 points and 23 excellent receptions for Creamline but it went down the drain as the Cool Smashers saw their six-game winning run end as they slid to 6-2 in a tie with BanKo Perlas at the No. 2 spot.
