ATENEO regained its rhythm and showed its previous loss was no more than a hiccup, clobbering University of Santo Tomas, 25-18, 25-18, 25-19, on Wednesday to reach the finals of the Shakey's V-League Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Alyssa Valdez scored 19 points on 16 spikes, one block and two service aces as the Lady Eagles recovered from a four-set loss to the Tigresses in the second match of the best-of-three series.
The Lady Eagles arranged a title showdown with National University, which swept FEU in the other semifinal. The best-of-three title series starts on Sunday.
Bea de Leon and Amy Ahomiro each had nine markers for Ateneo.
No UST player scored in double-figures, with EJ Laure ending up with nine points.
“Siguro nakita lang namin and na-notice lang namin na we really played happy today. We really played inspired and siyempre malaking factor din na nag-contribute ang lahat,” said Valdez.
“Sa mind lang namin we’re just gonna play, no pressure on our minds. Starting from the coaches ang sabi lang sa amin ‘just play happy,’” she added.
“No matter what na if we win or we lose we need this experience for our upcoming games pa. So we just played and did what our coaches said,” she added.
The Tigresses will square off with dethroned champion Far Eastern University in the best-of-three battle for third starting on Saturday.
