ATENEO zoomed to its third straight win by dominating De La Salle–Dasmarinas, 25-13, 25-19, 25-22, to stay unbeaten in the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Sunday.
UAAP back-to-back Most Valuable Player Alyssa Valdez powered the Lady Eagles with 22 points behind 15 spikes, one block, and six service aces.
Jhoanna Maraguinot added 12 and Bea de Leon chipped in 10 for the Katipunan-based squad, which took the solo lead in Group B.
While the Lady Eagles took just an hour to finish the match, Valdez was quick to point out their weaknesses especially on their first ball reception.
“Nakikita namin ‘yung mga weaknesses namin na kailangan pa i-improve,” said the 22-year old pride of San Juan, Batangas.
Ateneo had an equal number of excellent receptions with La Salle-Dasma (11-11), but had lesser digs (17-21).
Valdez cited the absence of libero Denden Lazaro as a big factor in Ateneo’s defense and the limited playing minutes of Ella de Jesus, who is suffering from an eye infection.
“Sobrang laking kawalan talaga nila Den and Ella lalo na sa first ball,” she said.
Iumi Yongco produced 10 points for La Salle-Dasma, which absorbed its third consecutive loss in as many games.
