CONFERENCE Most Valuable Player Jovelyn Gonzaga carried the Philippine Army past Philippine Air Force, 26-24, 29-27, 25-21, on Tuesday to take a step closer to clinching the bronze medal in the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 Open Conference at the Arena in San Juan.
Gonzaga came away with 15 points from 10 spikes, four blocks and one service ace, Best Server Mary Jean Balse added 11 and Rachel Anne Daquis, who was given a special award for being an ambassador for the sport, contributed 10.
The Lady Troopers lost the spikes department (40-46) but won the battle at the net registering nine blocks against four of Air Women and came with more service aces 11 to five.
But although Army survived the match in straight sets, Gonzaga says they would feel that they have accomplished something only when they secure third place and they hope to win it by series sweep.
“Wala pa kami kumpyansa (as a team), kung gusto naming tapusin (ang series) sa dalawang panalo,” she said.
Joy Cases finished with 19 points for Air Force, Lari Yongco added 13 and Judy Ann Caballejo made 11.
Of the ten Air Women fielded in the match, only five managed to score.
