DINDIN Santiago-Manabat and Honey Royse Tubino were their usual dominating selves, while backup setter Sarah Gonzales shared the spotlight as Army trounced Team Baguio, 25-7, 25-17, 25-10, on Tuesday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Santiago-Manabat scored 13 points, while recruit Honey Royse Tubino added 10 as the Lady Troopers scored their fourth win in five matches to tighten their hold on second spot behind PLDT (4-0).
Army coach Rico de Guzman gave starting setter Tina Salak and Santiago-Manabat a short workout in the first set before sending in Gonzales to take over.
Gonzales did not disappoint, issuing 24 of the team’s 33 excellent sets.
“Parang tune up na ito sa amin kasi dito na lang kami sa game nagkikita-kita,” said De Guzman.
“Pinaglaro ko lahat ng players para makabisado nila ang laro ng isa’t-isa lalo na si Dindin at Tina.”
Tin Agno and Patricia Torres also split the playing time at libero.
All 12 Army players fielded scored at least a point as the Lady Troopers dominated the Summer Spikers, although the match time felt long —an hour and 25 — because of a 10 minute delay in the second set due to power interruption.
Skipper Cindy Benitez scored eight points for Team Baguio, which absorbed its fourth loss in five matches.
