ANOTHER University of Santo Tomas is proving her worth and living her dream as a Tigress in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Season 2 Collegiate Conference.

With Eya Laure far from full form due to a reccuring right shoulder injury, Ysabel Jimenez stepped up when it mattered most and played her best game so far with team-high 13 points to lead the Tigresses against College of Saint Benilde Lady Blazers in straight sets, 26-24, 29-27, 25-17, on Saturday at the Arena in San Juan City.

The 18-year-old Jimenez fulfilled her promise to her fellow rookie, Laure, and helped UST in preserving its unbeaten record to five games to clinch the first semifinals berth.

The transferee from University of the East high school shared that playing for UST is a dream come true for her.

“Dream school ko po talaga itong UST and andito ‘yung mga taong nagpapasaya sa akin and masaya sa UST, actually sobrang saya hindi ako nagsisi na lumipat ako dito,” Jimenez said. “Gusto ko kasi sila coach Kung fu (Reyes) ang galing nila magcoach as in and masaya sa UST talaga.”

With nine rookies in the 14-woman roster all fighting for a spot in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament next year, there will be no hard feelings for Jimenez whatever happens.

For now, the 5-foot-9 open spiker just wants to deliver a PVL Collegiate Conference championship to UST.

“Makapasok kami ng championship kahit wala ng individual awards or ano,” she said. “Gusto ko manalo kami, magchampion kami dito. Kasi siyempre ‘yung line-up namin dito is puro rookies kami, so gusto ko kahit rookies pa lang kami may mapuntahan agad kami.”
