AMY Ahomiro took charge as skipper Alyssa Valdez played sparingly, helping Ateneo bounce back from a heartbreaking loss a week ago with a 25-13, 25-18, 25-20 win over Southwestern University on Sunday in the Shakey's V-League Season 11 First Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Ahomiro was the lady of the match, coming up with 13 points, including four blocks, while rookies Michelle Morente and Kassarandra Gequillana added nine points each for the Lady Eagles, who had bowed to league-leading Arellano, 25-21, 16-25, 25-17,20-25, 13-15.
Valdez played only the first two sets, scoring seven points before sitting out the third to rest the left knee that was injured during the Lady Eagles’ run to the UAAP title.
“Pinahinga ko muna si Alyssa kasi ’yung tuhod niya, kaya ginamit ko muna ’yung mga iba,” said Ateneo assistant coach Parley Tupaz.
Libero Denden Lazaro was scheduled to take a school exam and skipped the game, while Ella de Jesus also did not play due to a left shin stress fracture.
Still, the Lady Eagles cruised to their second win in three games and now sit behind idle Arellano in the standings.
Seldomly used Mae Tajima and guest players Bea de Leon and Jhonna Maraginot also stepped up and had a combined 11 for Ateneo.
Loida Abellana had four points for SWU, which ended its campaign with a fourth consecutive loss for a 1-4 card.
