ALYSSA Valdez owned up to the miss that mattered most.
The Creamline captain took responsibility for her down-the-line attack that sailed out at match point in the Cool Smashers’ 21-25, 26-24, 25-18, 22-25, 15-17 loss to Cignal - a crucial error that denied them outright passage to the semifinals.

With the match on the line, Valdez went for a last-ditch hit she was able to convert in the previous play, believing it was the best option at that moment.
She missed.
“I feel like at that point, yun yung best na decision, so ‘yun ‘yung ginawa ko,” said Valdez. “Unfortunately, it wasn't the best, so I'm gonna learn from that. But at this point in my career, I'd say I'm just so happy that I experienced this moment pa rin.”
The loss relegated Creamline to the play-in, where it will face either Akari or Choco Mucho in a do-or-die duel for the final semifinals seat.
At 32, Valdez remains grateful to be in those pressure-packed situations.
“Oo nga eh. It's been a while ata,” she said. “At the end of the day, kailangan pa rin natin matuto. Marami pa ring mga sitwasyon na hinaharap, so ngayon, pinapakita sa atin. I'm just very, very glad and thankful pa rin na may chance pa rin ako na magawa ‘yun.”
For Valdez, that rare mistake stings despite recording an 18-point, 20-reception, 19-dig triple-double. So does the lesson that comes with it.
