ALYSSA Valdez returned to action and Creamline defeated Pacifictown-Army, 25-21, 25-16, 25-18, in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan.
The defending champion Cool Smashers scored their first win after dropping the opening match to Petro Gazz, getting things going under assistant coach Ed Ortega after sacking Chinese coach Huanning Li.
Michele Gumabao, who didn’t start in their previous game, had 13 points off nine kills, two blocks and two service aces for Creamline.
Valdez, who sprained her left ankle in the opener, scored 12 as the Cool Smashers completed the win in an hour and 21 minutes.
Venezuela’s Aleoscar Blanco also had 12 points, Thai import Kuttika Kaewpin and Fil-Japanese middle blocker Risa Sato added nine apiece, while setter Jia Morado dished out 27 excellents sets on top of four points.
“Inaral namin ‘yung Army, kung paano sila gumalaw, yung mga tendencies nila. Pinag-usapan din namin ng coaching staff kung ano ang best na pantapat sa system ng Army,” said Ortega.
Creamline tied Pacifictown-Army with a 1-1 record.
Ortega will still call the shots for Creamline against BanKo on Sunday as they wait for Thai head coach Tai Bundit.
Jenelle Jordan was the lone player to score in double digits for the Lady Troopers with 10 points, while Olena Lymareva-Flink added nine markers.
Pacifictown-Army faces debuting Motolite on Saturday.
