VOLLEYBALL star Alyssa Valdez reiterated on Sunday that she is committed to joining the national team in its Japan training from July 17 to August 2 ahead of the Southeast Asian Games.

The many-time national player was quick to dismiss rumors circulating on social media that she will cut short her Japan trip to fulfill her duties with Creamline in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference.

“Well, that’s the plan naman, to train with the team for the whole duration ng national team training talaga,” said the former UAAP MVP out of Ateneo.

In fact, Creamline assistant coach Oliver Almadro said in a separate interview that the team is already preparing for the games that Valdez is bound to miss because of the Japan trip.

Valdez won’t be with the team in its last three games in the elimination round against Power Smashers (July 19), University of the Philippines (July 22) and BanKo-Perlas (July 30).

By the time that the former UAAP three-time MVP returns, the PVL will be in the semifinal stage.

After the Japan trip, the national team will see action in the Asian Women’s Seniors Championship on August 9-17 in Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna and two days later in the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 19-31.

“When we get back here we have siguro ilang days lang tapos may tournament na kami,” she said. “Well, that’s the original plan and we’re gonna stick to it naman.”

When pressed for comments on the rumors that she will not be with the national team for the entire Japan training, Valdez laughed it off.

“Hindi ko alam kung saan nababasa ‘tong mga nangyayaring ‘to pero hindi ko talaga alam kung saan lumalabas,” she said.

Valdez insisted that Creamline has given its full support to the national team.

“Pero well kung mabibigyan ng chance, syempre may commitment naman tayo sa Creamline also and I think everyone knows naman also that the mother company din naman nila (Creamline) ang nag-sponsor ng trip,” she said.

“So syempre let’s be open to all the possibilities but the plan is to really train with them (national team) naman, so I guess that’s all I could say,” she added.
