CREAMLINE advanced to the semifinals after a straight-set win over Air Force, 25-16, 26-24, 25-17, in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.
Former three-time UAAP MVP Alyssa Valdez poured in 19 points to carry the Cool Smashers to the best-of-three semis, while Thai import Kuttika Kaewpin added 17.
American import Laura Schaudt added eight, Jema Galanza chipped in seven and Pau Soriano contributed six for the Cool Smashers.
“Everybody did a good job, and I'm happy with how Alyssa and Alex and Pau played,” said Creamline assistant coach Oliver Almadro. “Why I'm always reminding Pau and Alyssa is they have to lead by maturity, both of them.”
“The import is there, 'yan na 'yan eh. But the other players will follow kung ano 'yung sisimulan ni Pau and ni Alyssa, and of course, susunod din 'yung skills and mindset ni Alex (Cabanos),” he added.
Valdez took matters into her own hands when Creamline was down, 22-24, in the second set as she scored three of the team’s last four points to bail out the Cool Smashers.
Kaewpin joined Valdez in the scoring parade in the third set as the Cool Smashers cruised to their only straight set win in the round robin quarterfinals.
Creamline secured its semis berth with a 2-1 win-loss card.
As of posting time Pocari Sweat (2-0) and Perlas (1-1) are playing and in case of a three-way tie at 2-1, whichever between the Lady Warriors and the Spikers with a superior tie-brea points will complete the semis picture.
Iari Yongco made seven markers for Air Force, while Jocemer Tapic and Angel Antipuesto added six apiece.
