BUREAU of Customs advanced to the semifinals after a short workout of listless Philippine Coast Guard, 28-18, 25-12, 25-18, in the Shakey's V-League Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Wednesday.
Alyssa Valdez finished with 14 points for BoC, while Thai import Kanjana Kuthaisong added seven.
BoC joined University of Santo Tomas (5-1) and Pocari Sweat (4-1) in the Final Four.
"Buti na lang (kasi) gulu-gulo 'yung standings kaya nakapasok kami sa semis," said BoC coach Sherwin Meneses.
All 12 scoring players fielded had at least a point in the match that took an hour and 12 minutes. Michiko Castañeda and Lilet Mabbayad had five markers apiece, while Thai setter Natthanicha Jaisaen and former Far Eastern University standout Rose Vargas each added four points.
"Maganda 'yung nilaro ng bench players kasi masisipag naman talaga sila mag-ensayo," said Meneses. "'Yun din 'yung medyo kumpyansa kami kasi pag nag-eensayo kami lamang 'yung madami talaga. Pare-pareho lang naman 'yung ensayo ng bawat isa kaya nag-step up talaga sila."
The Transformers looked to end the match, 24-15, before the Lady Dolphins threatened and saved three match points, 18-24, but a miscue on their end handed the win to BoC.
Coming from a straight set loss to early semifinalist Pocari Sweat on Saturday, the Valdez-led Transformers improved to 4-2 win-loss card.
Samantha Dawson was the lone bright spot for Coast Guard with 11 points. The Lady Dolphins remained winless in six outings.
