ALYSSA Valdez showed the way as usual and Jhoanna Maraguinot continued to live up to expectations as one of Ateneo’s next leaders as the Lady Eagles preserved their unbeaten run with a 25-18, 26-24, 20-25, 25-15 win over the UP Lady Maroons on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the V-League Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan.

That was a combined 53 of the Lady Eagles' 96 points in the match that lasted an hour and 37 minutes.
“It was a hard battle, battle of Katipunan sabi nga nila, UP really gave us a good fight,” said the 22-year old Valdez, who pointed out that the Lady Eagles committed 32 errors compared the 24 by the Lady Maroons.
“We got to give it to UP,” she added. “We really have to be consistent pero mabuti na rin that we experience this kinds of things for us to work hard pa, we can see na may kulang pa and we still need to improve.”
The Lady Fighting Maroons led by five, 13-8, in the third set and went on to extend the match, but the Eagles regained control in the fourth, moving to a 16-9 advantage and cruising to the win.
Ateneo holds a 4-0 win-loss card as the earlier victories over also-rans San Sebastian and Technological Institute of the Philippines don’t count in the round-robin quarterfinals.
Justine Dorog had 14 points, Diana Carlos scored 12 and Maria Lina Isabel Molde had 10 points for UP, which has a 0-4 card, its wins Polytechnic University of the Philippines and University of Batangas not carried over.
