CREAMLINE got its act together late to beat Air Force in straight sets, 25-23, 25-20, 25-15, at the start of the 2019 Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Michelle Gumabao fired all of her 14 points off kills, while Alyssa Valdez scored 13 -10 coming off hits, two on service aces, and one on a block - to help the Cool Smashers open their title-retention campaign on a bright note.
"We're really expecting a long and hard match, but definitely in the first set, even as a team, nag-adjust din kami," said Valdez.
After a shaky first two sets, Creamline got itself going to flip a 10-7 lead into an 18-9 advantage behind the duo of Gumabao and Valdez. The three-time PVL MVP then delivered the hit to complete the job.
"Overall, we're really adjusting and coping sa system na dinadala sa amin ni coach Tai (Bundit). We have a lot of things to improve on going to the next games pa," said Valdez.
Risa Sato added 11 markers, Jema Galanza got nine, and Jia Morado delivered 23 excellent sets in the victory.
Creamline was on point with its services, scoring six aces to Air Force's one.
Dell Palomata carried the Lady Jet Spikers with 14 points, while May Ann Pantino got 10 in the defeat.
