CREAMLINE star Alyssa Valdez finally got some much needed help as the Cool Smashers imports finally suited up and delivered a huge win to boost their campaign in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference.

After seven games, Thai spiker Kuttika Kaewpin and American hitter Laura Schaudt made their debut for the Cool Smashers as the International Volleyball Federation granted their International Transfer Certificates.

The two imports helped Valdez and Creamline defeat defending champion Pocari Sweat, 21-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-13, on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

“Hopefully naman natulungan din namin ang import namin sa game today, hindi lang kami ‘yung natulungan nila, ‘yun naman ang gusto natin,” said Valdez.

In their previous games, Valdez had to carry most of the offensive load for the team as she averaged 25 points per game and doing some defensive work with 3.36 digs per set.

But with the help of the imports, the former Ateneo star and three-time UAAP MVP did not have to carry the team alone as Kaewpin had a game-high 20 points, 15 digs and eight excellent receptions, while Schaudt tallied 14 markers.

Valdez, though, had 18 points, eight digs and eight excellent sets in a match that took an hour and 48 minutes to finish.

The 23-year old pride of San Juan, Batangas, however, was not surprised with Kaewpin’s performance.

The two were teammates in 3BB Nakornnont when Valdez saw action in the Thai Super League early this year.

“Hindi lang siya leader kundi ‘yung will to fight and yung will to win niya nandoon talaga,” said Valdez. “Sino ba naman ang di gustong maging teammate ang ganoon?”

But Creamline has no time to celebrate and even rest as it faces Power Smashers on Sunday at the PhilSports Arena.
