CREAMLINE closed in on the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference title, defeating PayMaya, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 25-19, on Sunday at the MOA Arena.
Thai import Kuttika Kaewin had 19 points, 11 digs and 15 excellent receptions, skipper Alyssa Valdez added 18 points and American reinforcement Laura Schaudt scored 13 for Creamline.
The Cool Smashers, whose best finish in the league is third place, can wrap up the series on Wednesday.
“Going into the finals both teams siguro, high morale, I think playing three games in the semis medyo nagka-advantage kami kasi wala kaming five-setter match and siguro may advantage kami kasi mas may energy kami towards the end of the game,” said Alyssa Valdez.
Although both teams had to go through do-or-die semis matches after losing Game One, the Cool Smashers played in two three-setters and one four-setter while the High Flyers lost in four sets in the series opener and played back-to-back five-setters.
The win pushed Valdez a win away from her first title in three years, or since she won a championship in the 2015 Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference with an all-star PLDT team that also included Jaja and Dindin Santiago and Denden Lazaro, to name a few.
American import Tess Rountree finished with 26 points for PayMaya, while Grethcel Soltones added 11 points, 14 digs and 20 excellent receptions.
