Alyssa attacks hardly needed as Galanza and Co. take care of Creamline offense

Valdez comes up with one of lowest attack productions, but the rest of Cool Smashers step up
Aug 18, 2019

IT’S unusual for Alyssa Valdez to only have 12 attack attempts but she will always find a way to deliver for her team.

“First time na mangyayari na twelve attempts ako, promise,” beamed a surprised Valdez when she saw her 8-of-12 clipping in spikes on the stats sheet.

Valdez scored most of her eight kills in the third set but Creamline was still too much for newcomer Chef’s Classics,25-12, 25-5, 25-15, in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference on Sunday at the Arena in San Juan City.

With Jema Galanza, Michele Gumabao, and Celine Domingo dominating the frontline, the Cool Smashers didn’t need Valdez’s attacking as she was flawless from the service line, firing seven aces, without an error out of her 35 attempts.

The three-time PVL MVP served 16 straight times in the first set for a 16-1 spread and had 20 consecutive trips from the service line mounting a 19-1 lead in the second set.

“Yung goal ko kasi talaga syempre more than na hindi ako mag errors sa service line is to get points para may points din sa likod,” said the national team mainstay. “Sa training din ni coach Tai (Bundit), we train the very important skill which is service so the fact na tinetrain namin yun dapat lumabas siya sa game.”

Besides their everyday training in service that resulted in an efficient performance, Valdez is also confident that all of her teammates will always deliver.

“I’m really confident kasi na kahit nasa likod ako may tumutulong kagaya sila Jema sa front to kill the ball,” she said. “You just do what you have to do kasi everyone naman will do their part.”

As the star-studded Cool Smashers remained unstoppable in their first three games, Valdez is glad that their team chemistry has been working wonders but she insisted that there’s still a long way to go to defend their throne.

“Hopefully mag tuluy-tuloy ito kasi future games namin mas matitibay, mas malalakas na teams yung kalaban namin,” she said.
