CREAMLINE bagged its first back-to-back wins of the tournament after a five-set thriller over Perlas, 25-16, 9-25, 17-25, 25-13, 15-13, in the round robin quarterfinals of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
Team captain Alyssa Valdez finished with 21 points, including the last two markers for the Cool Smashers to finish off the Perlas Spikers, while Thai import Kuttika Kaewpin fired 19.
“Perlas really played well also, they prepared for us, but ‘yung leadership ni Alyssa ang nagdala,” said Creamline assistant coach Oliver Almadro.
The Cool Smashers were off to a dominating start in the fifth set, 7-3, after Kaewpin’s off the block hit and sustained the lead, 10-5.
Perlas threatened and tied the contest, 13-13, before Valdez scored back-to-back hits and handed the win for the Cool Smashers.
“First of all, we just believed that we can win, ‘yun lang. Instructions lang namin sa 13-all just smile and believe that you can win,” said Almadro.
“Talagang gusto nilang manalo dito sa quarterfinals. Sabi ko nga ‘yung mga previous losses namin, it’s just a stepping stone for improvement,” he added.
Creamline is tied with Pocari Sweat (1-0).
Brazilian import Rupia Inck made 19 points for Perlas, while Kathy Bersola added 13 and skipper Dzi Gervacio, who did not play in their previous game due to fever, had 10.
Perlas is tied with Air Force (0-1).
