BALIPURE is facing a longer wait for top star Alyssa Valdez.
Valdez is not expected to play a day after arriving from Europe, and BaliPure will also be without Bea Tan, coach Charo Soriano and assistant Alexa Micek when the Defenders battle Iriga on Wednesday in the V-League at the San Juan Arena.
Valdez returns to Manila on Tuesday after a series of volleyball exhibition matches in Europe and Soriano says she won’t allow the Ateneo star to play right away.
Soriano, Tan and Micek will also miss the match as they take part in the Beach Volleyball Republic Invitational at Anguib Beach in Sta. Ana, Cagayan.
“Alyssa, I will not advise her and she is also not advised by our physical therapist to play on Wednesday because she’s just getting back tomorrow and it wouldn’t be wise also,” said Soriano.
Grethcel Soltones was also part of the Europe trip but returned earlier and was able to play and help the Defenders beat the NU Lady Bulldogs.
“Grethcel Soltones, when she arrived on Thursday, we had her rest the first day. She went to our physical therapist, they did a little bit of a check-up and then the next day she went to the gym. She did a physical conditioning, played for two days and played today for the game,” shared Soriano.
“Alyssa wouldn’t have that much time and we wouldn’t want to force her also so if we can have her rest for a while and really prepare her body for the next remaining matches,” she added.
Bali Pure now holds a 1-1 record and Soriano is more confident not to play Valdez.
“Because the next remaining matches and each and every match is important but we feel that with this win, coming into the next game, we’re gonna be more confident,” said Soriano.
“Although, ‘yun nga I cannot be there to coach, Bea Tan won’t be there, but Alyssa will be there, (assistant) coach Ato Toyco will be there so the team will be pretty much intact,” said Soriano. “So if they really stick to focus on the game, then we can win that game on Wednesday.”
