AFTER a tough five-set loss in Creamline’s campaign opener in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference, Alyssa Valdez and Michele Gumabao graced the glamorous ABS-CBN Ball on Saturday night at Makati Shangri-la.
Creamline’s Open Conference debut was spoiled by Petro Gazz Angels, who battled back from a 1-2 set deficit against the Cool Smashers and completed a 27-25, 17-25, 25-23, 19-25, 15-5 victory on Saturday night at the Imus Sports Complex.
The Cool Smashers even opened the fifth set with a 4-0 lead only for the Angels to soar with a 15-1 run to steal the win and snap their two-game skid.
Valdez, who had 26 points in a losing effort, admitted that they were really stunned by Petro Gazz but insisted that they cannot undo what happened as she vowed to just move on and bounce back in their next game.
“Siyempre hindi talaga 'yun 'yung in-expect namin na turnout ng event. But, maganda talaga 'yung nilaro ng Petro Gazz,” the Creamline star said. “Wala na kaming magagawa kasi nandito na kami sa sitwasyon na 'to. We just have to accept it and recover agad.”
After a long team talk by coach Tai Bundit in the locker room, Valdez and Gumabao rushed their way from Imus to Makati City.
Valdez shone in her glittery silver dress by bridal and evening gown designer Rosenthal Tee and walked with partner and basketball star Kiefer Ravena, while Gumabao, Miss Globe Philippines, was also stunning with her high slit skin-tone gown designed by Nat Manilag, who also made the volleyball player’s national costume during the Binibining Pilipinas pageant.
After the magical night, Valdez and Gumabao worked out with the Cool Smashers on Sunday morning as they seek to bounce back against Tacloban on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan City.
“Siyempre, marami pa kaming paghahandaan as a team. So we’re really looking forward pa sa mga next games namin,” Valdez said.
